Dr. Cooper Performs First Procedure at SHVC
Interventional radiologist, Dr. James Cooper, performed the first procedure at Sentara Heart and Vascular Center at Potomac Hospital, which opened today.
Dr. Cooper performed a paracentesis, which is a procedure to remove fluid from the belly. This fluid build-up may be caused by infection, inflammation, an injury, or other conditions. Paracentesis is also used to relieve belly pressure or pain in people with cancer or cirrhosis.
The new Sentara Heart and Vascular Center at Potomac Hospital offers residents in our community the option of receiving cardiovascular care closer to home, including interventional cardiac catheterization and other procedures to treat heart and vascular diseases and interventional radiology procedures.
