Sentara Potomac Hospital Offers Free Spine Seminar
If you are considering surgery to relieve your back pain or if you suffer from chronic neck or back pain, recurrent pain, or leg or sciatica pain, you’ll want to attend this free seminar.
Removing herniated discs and other common back operations can now be performed using minimally invasive techniques. Orthopedic Surgeon Paymaun Lotfi, M.D., will discuss these new procedures, which are more precise, cause less damage to the surrounding tissue and require much smaller incisions. That means faster recoveries and shorter hospital stays for patients.
Most back pain is temporary and treatable with medicines or physical therapy. But for some, surgery is the best course, particularly when less invasive techniques can be used.
New Advances in Spinal Surgery:
Minimally Invasive Techniques and Beyond
When: Wednesday, April 7, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Where: Sentara Potomac Hospital, Hylton Education Center
Registration: Free! Registration is required. To register call Sentara Potomac Hospital’s Health Connection at (703) 221-2500 or register online at potomachospital.com.

Siler Named Nurse of the Year
Sentara Potomac Hospital staff nurse, Shaunna Siler, R.N., received the Dale City Civic Association’s 2009 Kathie Feeney Nurse of the Year Award on January 31.
Shaunna began working as a licensed practical nurse on the Hematology/Oncology Unit in 2004 and while learning the ropes of being a bedside nurse she returned to nursing school. A very deserving recipient of the Potomac Hospital Nursing Scholarship, she attended Northern Virginia Community College and earned an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing in 2007. She became a registered nurse and is now working on her master’s degree in Nursing. Shaunna works full time on the Hematology/Oncology Unit and is currently working on becoming a Certified Oncology Nurse.
Shaunna is a competent and caring nurse, devoted to the excellent care of her patients. She is a resource to all those she works with and truly represents the best of the nursing profession. We are very fortunate to have Shaunna as a member of the Sentara Potomac family!
